This project was for a group of restauranteurs seeking to start a fast-casual, inline prep restaurant similar to Chipotle only featuring authentic Indian Food in a wrap. The project was based on broad cultural research and featured identity, brand, naming, and interior space design. The radial symbol used is an Indian cultural pattern called a Rangoli. It is often planted on floors or rendered by laying out flower petals on the ground. The naming is meant to emphasis the word “OM” as in the chant as well as the “go” in reference to the quick and fresh service.

Nationwide Insurance is creating a driver based auto insurance program. The program requires a small device which would measure and report driving data to be placed in the customer’s vehicle. A program name, identity, packaging and copyrighting as well as design for agent -level marketing materials were needed to start the pilot program. The package needed to deliver simple, self-installation instructions to the user. I worked on a small team to provide these deliverable by cooperating with the NWI marketing, print procurement, in-house photo studio and executive team. The packaging form and die cut was a custom slide-out design, revealing the instruction booklet.

Short Crust Pies is a start up baking business specializing in personal sized pot pies to go. I’ll be working on the packaging for these soon but these studies are the first version of the logo usage that I’ve put together so far. Each pie has the “x” cut into its top as a vent while baking so I’ve added that to the counter of the “o” in the logotype. For the packaging the color are may be applied as a color inked rubber stamp over a 1 color logotype which would indicate the filling.
The Wexner Center hosts a wide variety of theater, dance, film and music events. Indie-rock and electronic music events are promoted under the event series “Next@Wex”. Over the 2 years that I worked with the organization I helped develop the identity and visual style of this popular series. Posters box posters, handouts, flyers, postcards, program notes and web promotions were created for these events.

Wendy’s and Arby’s, now jointly owned are expanding into the middle Eastern market and wish to construct shared kitchen space or hybrid restaurants in that region for the sake of efficiency. A new hybrid identity was needed as well as an Arabic version of the mark.

Challenges:

Leveraging brand attributes from each brand in equal parts was a challenge since neither brand was to overtake the other , the were simply mean to co-exist. Also, the language barrier presented a unique situation of designing letter forms which would pheonetically read like the English version which still appearing aesthetically related in form.

Orange Julius is a brand in need of a refresh. Now, owned by Dairy Queen, the brand has lost much of their brand personality that it once had as a street cart business when customers would call out “an orange please, Julius!”. The original logo, for some reason or another also incorporated a devil character leaning on an orange.

Challenges:

The following concept was meant to breath life and personality back into this brand. A simpler direction was ultimately chosen as a final but this was my recommended solution.

Charleys Philly Cheese Steaks is, strangely enough not at all a Philly based restaurant chain but rather an Ohio company. Over the years of franchise existence the brand had lots a clear voice and was in danger of becoming a blur among the offerings of other such sandwich purveyors. The company has a strong community commitment and an amusing back story. The challenge was to draw these forward while maintaining the strong, masculine and bold aesthetic of the existing brand standards. I used scanned inkings of historic wood block type to create the wall graphics which spoke of authenticity and quality.

Custom Ladies is a calendar series featuring models custom designed shoes by a Houston artist. I did these logo studies for the project which ended up taking a different direction but I had a lot of fun with these sketches so I thought I’d post them anyway. All of the scripts are based loosely on existing script fonts but heavily modified to create ligatures and apply distortions.

This project included an identity, document layout and web design audit. The document was to be auto generated as a report document so extensive integration support was required.

PROJECT SCOPE:
Mortgage Advantage Pro is a software offering mortgage calculation for mortgage originators. The challenge here was to create an attractive electronic report document that could be auto populated by the program on output and uploaded to the service Issuu.com as well as printed or emailed. An identity was also developed for this project and an audit of the current web site was performed to produce recommendations on new graphic layouts.

CHALLENGES:
This project was an exercise in integration as there were many limitations on what could be implemented through the software programming. This entire document is designed as an MS word template which contains variable fields populated by the mortgage program. All output of the populated document to printable PDF and online version were automated within the programming.
